Hi,
I removed the stainless steel fitting from
my bow and there was oxidation coming from a steel fitting underneath.
Any idea what it is, and whether I should remove it? I have drilled around it, but I haven’t been able to get it out so far.
Thanks,
James

Re: Steel bow fitting?
That's interesting!
That hole and steel fitting has been reported before, Skrov/däck skarven:
It may be rests from when the boats were made at Marieholms Bruk.
A theory: Can it be that the deck and the hull had to be fixed just before they were laminated to each other?

Re: Steel bow fitting?
As there are more than one IF-boat having this hole maybe i is a remaining from a navigation light which was mounted underneath the pulpit or remainings from the lid of a filling pipe of a fresh water tank.....

Re: Steel bow fitting?
Ah, that looks familiar.
I was worried my boat (pictured in Johan's post above) had been repaired in some way but that seems unlikely now given the exact same hole position and the similar iron rod.

Re: Steel bow fitting?
Thank you everyone. Reassuring to know this fitting is also found in other boats too. I plan to dry it out properly and then fill with some
Epoxy before replacing the bow fitting.
I also managed to clean out my hull / deck joint last weekend and replace the sealant with Bostik MSR CA. Hopefully that should be the end of all the leaks, and I can start to repair some of the damage to the timber interior caused by the water.
February already and I still have a huge list of jobs!!
