Greetings from IFboat 1244 in Southern California! We are new owners and slowly working down our list of fixes and improvements. At some point during its life our Folkboat lost its outhaul. All there is now is a fixed eye at the aft end of the boom to which the clew of the mainsail is permanently tied. We would really like to restore a functional outhaul, although it doesn't have to be set up the same way as the original was.
Could people with outhauls that work well please share with us how their outhauls are set up, maybe post some pictures?
Thank you!
Teri

Re: How is the outhaul set up?
There is a recent discussion on the topic here http://www.ifboat.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=853
It's all in Swedish but Google Translate can probably help you a little bit along the way. If not, at least there are some pictures of different solutions.
Good luck!

Re: How is the outhaul set up?
You will find the idea of making o good and functional outhaul if you look in to the North Sails Trimguide, http://www.ifboat.com/trimguider/north/ ... tg_eng.pdf , page 3.
The original outhaul is very poor and unfunctional with no purchase, coming out on the side of the boom. Thus it has to be stretech in harbour with no wind pressure on the mainsail. My opinion is that it is not a good idea to make it like this original solution.
Reading the North sails Trimguide and looking at the photos of viewtopic.php?f=2&t=853 as per above, you will certainly understand, even if the automatic translation into English will be somewhat poor.
