Now on Saturday 20th July a historical event will take place when the first newly built IF-boat in decades visits Sweden and Marstrand.
The boat builder Peter Grönlund has reconditioned IF-boats for ages until he finally decided to build a new boat from scratch and he got the permission to start the process.
The two sons of the IF-boat designer Tord Sundén, Jörgen and Sture are now supervising the construction of the new boat. The new IF-boat has already test sailed well at the Danish National Championship where they ended up on second place in a strong wind regatta. However, all is not set for the new Seacamper IF to compete as an 'IF-boat' yet. The Technical Committee of the IF-boat Association has requested some additional documentation of the construction process, materials used etc. and some tests of performance and distribution of weights etc before the new boat can be classified as an ''IF-boat''. This is a natural and good process that will ensure that we have new high quality IF-boats in the future and that fair one-design racing is made possible also with the original Marieholm IF-boats. Owners of the new S-IF-boat will be welcomed as members of the IF-boat association also before all tests are made and we look forward to see Seacamper IFs race side by side with Marieholm IFs in the future!
