Hello,
I've got a small leak in the cabin. I'm getting a small amount of water in the second locker on the left, under the seat/bunk. It's rainwater so I'm guessing probably from the window seal, but would be interested in hearing of other areas that might be causing this leak.
Incidentally I'm a new IF owner, having bought mine in May. Really love the boat already. I mostly sail solo and find it so easy to handle. Boat is called ' Sonmi' and is sail no. 3215, built 1979. Based south coast UK.
Cheers,
Mat.

Re: Cabin leak
It could be a window seal leak or a leak from a bad sealed screw hole of some fitting. Check by spaying the deck and cabin outside with a water hose.

Re: Cabin leak
The sealing between the hull and the deck is also a possible water leakage point.

Re: Cabin leak
Thanks for the replies.
I'll check all the deck fittings for any obvious areas that need re-sealing. I tried the hose treatment, but to no avail. Bizarre how rainwater will find its way in though...
The hull/deck join does need attention - so I'll make that a priority.
Cheers,
Mat.

Re: Cabin leak
We had a lot of leaks in our boat, most under the lifeline stanchions, and one under the inboard jib track-that took some time, both to find and fix.
Re: Cabin leak
Hello!
I resolve 100% of leaking from windows...changing all!! after 30 years the old rubber doesn't work and no way to change it ...so the best way is to change with new oblo's made by ERTEC.(about 1600€ all six)
About stanchion .. I make all the work in my boat sealed its with butyl and make a chianplate under all the stachion now very strong!!
. You can see how i fix those problem looking my website

My boat at the moment is complete dry and no any drop of water enter. The most important is the quality of the work you do to avoid it.
Marieholm's are fantastic boat well made ..but after 30 years the need care and attention to fix the problems to gave you other more years and years of fun!!

Re: Cabin leak
Do you have an inboard motor? In that case the water can come in through the hatch in the cockpit
Re: Cabin leak
I did solve the cabin leak. It was the deck seam. Also was the first thing I tried....which is a first in my history of fixing things! ;)
Thanks for all the suggestions.

Re: Cabin leak
Well done!
It's good to hear you've got it resolved!
I have to renew the deck seam regularly. So far I think I have done it three times in 25 years, although one didn't stay very long because of my bad job. My conclusion: renew the sealing every 10 years!
