Hi,
I'm hoping to soon join the IF M26 group of sailers. The Folkboat I'm looking at has had modifications done to the chainplates (backing?) used to secure the eyes for the port and starboard stays. Am interested in any drawings or photos of the original hardware and configuration in order to restore the rigging to original. Specifically, how are the eyes secured on the inside of the decking?

I don't have any photos or drawings but I can tell you that the chainplate backing on my M26 are just pieces of plywood, about 15mm thick and maybe 150x100mm (from memory), sealed and painted to protect them from moisture.

Standard (original) chainplate backings should be from aluminium.

Maybe there is an aluminium plate anyhow?

thanks. Tomorrow I pick up the title to our IF! Can't wait to get her in the water. It looks like the original chainplate was epoxied in place. The current plate is larger and out of aluminum so probably a good thing. Will soon start to rebed and add new backing to all deck fittings. Wood plates are there now (for winches) and some have cracked. At least I can get to them.
